The Iron Yard-Houston: Day 1

TheIronYard.jpg

Today is the first day of the rest of my life….or at least it feels a bit like that. This being the first day at the Iron Yard (a code school), and my first day writing Ruby, is a day that I have been anticipating for some time. Today I am officially a (junior) software developer.

I had been looking for a change for some time, and I thought that I was on the right path by moving into a data analyst role at work, and then eventually moving on to a larger company. Then…everything fell apart. Well….it wasn’t exactly that dramatic. But when you boss lies about your work, writes you up for it, and then HR tells you that you are now on a performance plan to improve according to that same bosses expectations…..you know what to do. So I did, and I am so happy that I left cause it opened up the chance for me to be here, doing what I am doing now.

I am excited, and a little scared about what is to come. But, this is the first time in a long time that i am just happy to learn, and those around me are happy to teach. That in itself is a blessing. Let’s hope that I still feel this way by week 6. I am also doing some yoga training, so maybe that is bleeding through.

Either way…change is good, and it comes with unlimited cups of coffee to keep me going(Thank you Iron Yard)!
